Yeah, the number of running skins and how much those are affecting the performance, and eating resources depending on many variables.
Even one badly optimized skin can slow the system, even if it isn't a visualizer skin.
I might be overdo things, but i give extra attention and time after creating a skin to optimize the code as much as possible.

As Balala said, Update rate is the biggest key, but depends on, for example the size of the updated graphical object. So yeah, there aren't really a universal answer for that.
  • How can I install and organize skins properly?
I’ve noticed that when I try to install multiple skins at once, some of them don’t seem to play nicely together. Is there a specific order or process I should follow to ensure everything installs correctly without conflicts?
This part is also a bit foggy for me :???:
Organizing skins if you mean by in the main "Rainmeter/Skins" folder, then there you can build up Main folders and their subfolders which are contains the corresponding skin.ini files and maybe other script files as well.
In this page the "Configs" part there is a structure illustration how you can arrange the folders and subfolders, and which one will work in orders:
https://docs.rainmeter.net/manual/getting-started/creating-skins/
(If you did not mean by that by "organize", then i apologize for that!

Some additional thing, for starters, i would avoid using any other plugins than what you can find on the official Rainmeter Documentation page under "plugins" to ensure the stability of the skins. There are tons of awesome plugins/addons out there what was created by the also awesome community, but for me it was a bit advanced at the start ;)
