Might just be a question of getting used to it.Oh, I see - combining them into one icon is nice, but obviously not being able to hide the said icon is not. I guess it might be a way to force the user to always know about these privacy related things (which is not necessarily a bad thing in itself, but highly inconvenient visually speaking). I read somewhere that the yellow rectangle enclosing the screen when recording with OBS in a certain mode has pretty much the same reason (and is also the work of MS). As they say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions (if that's indeed the reason here).
To be clear, for both "location services" and "microphone", the only way to hide the icons is 1) don't use anything that accesses them, or 2) turn off access to the functionality for "desktop apps" in Settings. If you do 2), that will break the WiFiStatus and or AudioLevel plugins, and they just won't function.
